US military aviation insignia used since 1943, used to mid 1950s, decals 1/72
In 1943, the US Army and Naval aviation introduced new national insignia with white stripes and a insignia blue border. From then on they were used in four positions: on the both sides of the fuselage and at the top of the left wing and the bottom of the right wing. This arrangement is used today, except that in 1947 a red stripe was added in the center of each of the white side stripes of the marking.
Grumman built aeroplanes (F6F Hellcat) painted with Sea Blue Gloss overall had insignia painted without Insignia Blue color. After WW2 also other manufacturers used such insignia. It was continued untill gray/white camo introduced in mid 1950s.
