The very successful and much sought-after 1/48th scale Hurricane Mk II reconnaissance kit with the beautiful dark blue aircraft on the boxart has exposed us to protests that we are forgetting about 1/72 modellers. This is not true, because from the beginning we planned to create a similar kit in ‘72’ as well.
And that is exactly what is happening. What's more, the reconnaissance Hurricane in 1/72 is an even more rich Deluxe kit, a double set with up to six marking schemes to choose from and four cameras installation variants, which we have rendered in the highest quality resin 3D printing!
There is something for every Hurricane enthusiast here. Included are both the thoroughbred photo-recognition Hurricane PR and the combat army-cooperation aircraft, often called Tac-R, with guns, bombs and drop tanks. The markings we offer are also varied and very attractive!
The basic two variants of the reconnaissance Hurricane were closely related to the tasks for which the aircraft were destined.
The first was the classic long-range photographic reconnaissance, which was carried out by units called PRU (Photo Reconnaissance Unit). These aircraft were designated by the letters PR (Photo Reconnaissance). They were stripped of their armament and the space thus gained was used for additional fuel. Both kit-included Hurricanes PR were initially associated with Egypt, and later one went to Malta and the other to Indian Bengal. They are distinguished by an amazing dark blue paint job and a large under-fuselage nacelle housing three cameras.
The second variant was the tactical reconnaissance and army cooperation aircraft, designated by the letters FR (‘Fighter-Reconnaisance’) and often referred to as Tac-R. The photographic installations on these aircraft varied, as we show in our kit. ‘Busia’ from No. 318 Polish Squadron (classic desert camo) has an underbelly photo nacelle (smaller than in the PR aircraft), while the other kit Hurricanes have cameras installed directly in the fuselage, either single or twin. These three aircraft, operating in the Far East (Burma, India), carry the unusual camouflage and markings from that area, the so-called SEAC. All these aircraft are armed: with machine guns, cannons, bombs...
This double model kit filled with extras is offered in a Deluxe version. The large box contains a double set of very good and easily buildable Hurricane Mk II B/C sprues, allowing two complete models to be made. Conversion to the reconnaissance versions is easily accomplished with a set of precision 3D-printed resin parts, in addition to the cameras and their covers, there is cockpit interior equipment typical of reconnaissance aircraft, including modified control sticks. The large decal sheet features six different markings (RAF, Polish and Indian) in three camouflages: dark blue, desert and Far Eastern. Painting will be made easier with self-adhesive masks made of Japanese ‘kabuki’ paper. Each kit comes with a free download of an additional set of 3D files with a large package of parts for self-printing, including a seat with belts, exhaust pipes, gun and cannon barrels and some finer parts.
This cool double model kit can now be ordered on a pre-order promotion that includes the following options:
